As soon as these Northern California almonds spill out of the package, you can literally see the flavor covering them. The nuts are a deep burnt red. That’s a heavy hand of Spanish pimenton, a powerfully flavored paprika. We don’t even have to tell you that the spice is earthy and smoky, because the fragrant aroma will hit your nose almost as soon as you open the bag. Combined with the roasted almonds, the rich and fragrant result is addicting.
Clif Family Kitchen is also home to a winery in St. Helena, California. While their tasting notes say that you should pair the nuts on your cheeseboard with a full-bodied Zinfandel, we can’t help but imagine swapping that out for a Tempranillo or Grenache. If you close your eyes and breathe in the smoky aroma of the almonds, sipping on your glass of red, you’ll be transported, if only for a moment, to Spain.
