Picking up this jar, you'd think from the ruddy color that the red onions were pickled in red wine vinegar. That's actually the deep purple onion color tinting the apple cider vinegar. And the flavor of these gourmet pickled red onions is just as bright. A little bit sweet, a little bit sour, and there's even a touch of heat (courtesy of some sneaky crushed red pepper), you won't be able to get enough. Though red onions may not be standard pickling fare, they'll be a welcome addition to anyone's fridge.
Tip of the Tongue:
These pickled onions aren't just for burgers! Pair with slow-cooked meats, grilled meat and fish. Thai and Indian curries as well as tacos could enjoy a healthy helping. Splash a little of the red brine onto fresh oysters. Mix into garlic mashed potatoes. Or take your traditional dirty martini for a spin with a sweet-sour pickled martini.
